Wonder: Pages 205-255

Welcome back to sixth grade advising. This week we will read pages 205-255 of  Wonder . I am very impressed by most people's effort in this blogging activity. Keep up the great work! Also, don't forget to comment on or respond to another student's post. Please answer all parts of one of the questions below in at least one well developed paragraph. This is our penultimate week of  Wonder . Question #1: Why do you think Miranda and Via’s relationship changed over the summer? Miranda considers Auggie to be like a little brother. Do you have a friend or know someone you're not related to but who you consider to be part of your family? Why do you think Miranda gave up her part as Emily to Via on the opening night of the play? Please use evidence from the text to support your answers. Question #2: How does being kind help someone overcome challenges? Support your answer with at least two examples from the book and/or your own life. If you are using examples from the book, rem...

Wonder: Pages 155-204

Hello again. This week we will be reading  Wonder  through page 204. Please respond to one of the two questions below in a well developed paragraph and comment on a fellow classmate's response. Question #1: Justin and Olivia are in a play but Via has not told her family about it yet. Why do you think she hasn't told them? Please use evidence from the text when answering.  When we read, we understand and picture what we are reading more easily if we can find similarities between what is happening in the story and what has happened in our own life. This is called "making connections."  Have you ever kept something from someone you care about and if so, what was your reasoning at the time? Looking back on your choices, would you still make the same decision to either tell that person or keep the information to yourself? (Remember, you do not have to go into specific details when describing your own personal stories). Question #2: In the chapter "Letters, E...

Wonder: Pages 105-154

Thank you everyone. Your  Wonder  comments are very thoughtful and well-written. I'd love to see page numbers when you are citing evidence from the book, though. Remember, answering all parts of one of the questions on this blog is only half of the weekly assignment. You are also expected to comment on a response from at least one of your peers from either this blog or another group's blog. I've been seeing a lot of great responses so far. Let's keep it up! Question #1: Jack seems to struggle with how he feels about August. What are the positive and negative reasons he gives about being ex- friends with him? Have you ever felt pressured to stop being friends with someone? How did you feel? What might you say to Jack if he came to you for advice about deciding to be ex-friends with Auggie? What virtues (justice, fortitude, prudence, and temperance ) does Jack show throughout this section of the book? Question #2: What does Veronica mean when she says, "so...

Wonder: Pages 54-104

Hello again everyone in Ms. Troy's Advising! This week we will be reading  Wonder  pages 54-104. Please answer one of the two posted questions and comment on another classmate's post. Your blog responses will be part of your ELA grade for this term so remember to keep putting effort into your thoughts and your writing. I love what I'm seeing so far, and I know we can help each other create great conversations about this book. Question #1: Why could Via see Auggie in two ways, the way she always saw him and the way that other people see him, after she got back from her four week trip to her grandmother's? Have you ever had an experience where your perception or outlook changed, even though you may not have wanted or expected it to? How did you react to that change? Question #2: Do you think Via is right in her thoughts that her family needs to make Auggie "grow up?" Why or why not? She says on page 90 that they've "spent so much time tryi...
